11th Annual Bali Nusantara Cup

April 2-3, 2010 (Friday-Saturday)
Easter Long Weekend
The 11th Annual Bali Nusantara Cup will be held in Bali, Indonesia. Also known as the "island of the gods", it is a magical place that has managed to maintain its rich culture and customs, in spite of it being Indonesia's #1 tourist destination playing host to visitors from all over the world.
Bali offers everything you could want: beautiful weather, incredible culture, awesome nightlife, fantastic beaches and surfing, super-luxury accommodation at attractive prices, and more!
A perfect location for Ultimate tournaments!
Registration
We are accepting both team and individual registrations this year. The cost per player is IDR 750,000 or USD 80 payable at the registration party on Thursday night. (We would appreciate that you prepare the exact amount!)
Team: If your team would like to come to the tournament, please download this registration sheet and email to the Tournament Director through jakarta@ultimateindonesia.com with your Team and Player details.
Individual: If you want us to help you find a team, please let us know through the above email address with your Name, Origin Country, and a short Description of your Playing Skill, Experience, and Fitness Level.
The registration fee would entitle you to two competitive days of Ultimate (and an extra morning of early morning beach Ultimate!), a goodie bag with little surprises, a disc, lunch at the field on both game days, dinner at the tournament party, transportation from the field, etc.
Registration Deadline: March 18, 2010 (Thursday) – Two weeks before the tournament! Plenty of time to get off the fence and just come over!
Oh, and did we mention, free-flowing beer (courtesy of Heineken) on the field?
Non-Players: If your partners and friends would like to join in on the fun, we will be charging a total of IDR 500,000 for the whole weekend, or IDR 150,000 for Friday's F&B at the field, IDR 150,000 for Saturday's F&B at the field, and IDR 200,000 for the buffet dinner at the tournament party on Saturday night.
Format
Teams – We have 5 teams participating this year: ACJC, DiscIndo, Shiok, Thunderpants, and Ultimor. All have been practicing for some weeks now and it looks like anyone can win!
Gender Ratio – The tournament will be 4:3, although captains are free to agree on other arrangements as may be applicable for their teams.
Rules – We will be following the WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2009. If you are used to playing with UPA Rules, refer to the differences here (WFDF vs. UPA). A printout of these will also be provided to the captains during the Captains’ Meeting at the Registration Party.
Schedule – A Full Round Robin on Day 1 and Eliminations and Finals on Day 2.

Games –
-
Captains will disc-toss at the start of each game to determine starting endzone and offense/defense.
-
Games will be to 11 points, with a time cap of 60 minutes (i.e. finish current point, add 2 to the highest score to establish a win-by-1 target). Finals will be game to 13 with no time cap.
-
5-minute half-time at 30 minutes or when one team reaches 6 points. Mirror at the start of the second half.
-
2 two-minute time-outs per team per game.
-
The Round Robin on Day 1 will follow win-loss records. In case of a tie between teams, point differentials will be counted.
Score Sheets – Score sheets will be given to the team captain to fill up throughout the day. These will need to be submitted to the TD at the end of each game.
Fields
We’ve searched and we’ve searched (and even surveyed changing to “beach”!), but the most decent grass fields that can accommodate two regulation-sized are the well-loved Lapangan Pegok Sesetan fields in south Denpasar.
Transportation – Buses will be provided for your convenience only on heading back to your hotel areas (Kuta and Legian) on Friday and Saturday after the games. Please catch a taxi in the mornings in time for your games.
Food & Beverages – An Indonesian lunch box will be provided at the field (with vegetarian options), as well as fruit throughout the weekend. Water (AdeS) and isotonic drinks (PowerAde) will also be available, not to mention a player’s ultimate thirst-quencher, beer (Heineken)! Please remember to bring your own reusable bottles to fill up from the water dispensers.
Medical – BIMC has kindly agreed to be our medical assistance sponsor again this year. All on-site treatment will be free-of-charge, as well as ambulance transfers to a nearby hospital.
Security – Though we will have security guards on-duty around the fields, players are still liable for the safety of their belongings.
Massages – Massages will be provided by our friends from Panti Pijat Buta Denpasar (Home for the Blind). Any donations you make after your relaxing massage will be given to their foundation.

Note: BIMC has kindly agreed to be our medical assistance sponsor again this year. All on-site treatment will be free-of-charge, as well as ambulance transfers to a nearby hospital.

The Captains’ Meeting will also take place here at 9:30pm.

Should you be arriving past 11:00pm, please inform the TD via email beforehand and we will accept late registrations on Friday morning.

Friday, April 2
*There is usually no official gathering in the evening of Day 1 (Friday, April 2), but there is a wide range of fabulous restaurants around the island where you might want to arrange a Team Dinner for the night.
Some close-by favorites are:
Mykonos (Greek) – Jl. Oberoi, Legian
Made’s Warung (Indonesian/Balinese) – Jl. Oberoi, Legian
Kafe Waran Batu (mixed Indonesian) – Jl. Kartika Plaza, Kuta
Lanai (International) – Jl. Arjuna, Legian
Zanzibar (International) – Jl. Arjuna, Legian
Saturday, April 3
Tournament Dinner and Party
Venue: SEGERA (dinner) and OCEANS 27 (party), behind Discovery Shopping Mall, along Jl. Kartika Plaza, Kuta
Time: 7:30pm
The Bali Nusantara Cup tournament party this year will all happen in one location. The evening will begin with a buffet dinner (to prepare you for a night of partying, Bali-style!) and awarding ceremony. After we’ve had enough to eat and drink at Segara, we will head downstairs to Oceans 27 to drink some more and feel our calf muscles ache while we work up the dance floor!
Segara and Oceans 27 have kindly granted us a discount of 15% on all beverages. Please expect to pay about IDR 28,500 for Bintang beer and about IDR 59,000 for a gin & tonic, rum & coke, or vodka & soda/tonic.
Please also bring your swimsuits! There is a dip pool at the club and the beachfront waters are safe to swim in… but still at your own risk since there will be no lifeguard on duty!
Before we know it, the sun will rise above us and we culminate the party on the beach doing what we all love – play Ultimate!

Party Theme
The tournament party is one of the most important (so important that it deserves its own section!) and beloved traditions at the Bali Nusantara Cup, particularly since there no games the next day (except for the traditional early-morning beach pick-up game!) and generally no sense of decency!
This year’s theme is “PIRATES of the NUSANTARA”!
This is an easy one, folks, so I’m sure you don’t need any pointers! We expect everyone to be in costume! And, no, merely talking like a pirate is not considered being in costume.
Accommodation
This year, we will not be having an official tournament hotel. But don’t fret! There is definitely no shortage of rooms and hotels in Bali, so we thought we’d recommend a few based on location, price and access to the beach (5-minute-walk).
The most convenient areas to stay in for the fields and parties would be either in the Kuta, Legian or lower Seminyak areas.
We suggest you book right away since it’s Easter weekend!
Of course, you can still find good rates online with a bit of help from Google... and definitely check www.asiarooms.com for rates and info, or if you wait long enough for a last minute deal, you can try www.latestays.com. Suggested hotels are:

Travel Information
Bali, also known as the "island of the gods", is a magical place that has managed to maintain its rich culture and customs, in spite of it being Indonesia's #1 tourist destination playing host to guests from all over the world.
Overview of Bali
WEATHER – Since Bali is located just below the equator, its climate is tropical (hot and humid) with temperatures averaging 26-30°C (78-86°F) in April. Be sure to use sun protection (best to bring it with you) and drink plenty of bottled water!
CURRENCY – Bali uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). The rupiah rose to the US dollar recently, so advise you check current exchange rates. As of the end of February approximately 1 USD = 9,500 IDR. There are several ATMs and money changers at the airport and around the island, with many establishments accepting major credit cards (AmEx may be difficult though).
ELECTRICITY – Bali uses 220V electricity with predominantly European plug style (two parallel rounded prongs) used—type C & F for those techies. The monster British three-prong plug (3 rectangular-shaped prongs) or Type G is also found in many places. Link to plug types (http://www.kropla.com/electric2.htm).
COMMUNICATION – The country code for Indonesia is '62' and the area code for Bali is '361'. There is no shortage of internet shops and cafes with wi-fi connections.
HEALTH – First-time visitors to this part of the world are advised to talk to their physicians about recommended immunization before traveling. Traveler's health insurance is also recommended. FYI Bali is not listed as a danger area for malaria by the US CDC. While we are obviously not medical doctors, and our advise is not to be used to hold us liable, malaria should not be an overwhelming concern (if you really insist on taking antimalarials, would suggest one that does not have serious side effects such as Malarone from GSK). Mosquito repellant is advised for those that tend to attract the buggers—it can be purchased locally (with or without Deet) as well.
TRANSPORTATION – There are numerous taxis available; our preferred company is Blue Bird Group. Cars, motorbikes, bicycles, etc. (with or without drivers) are commonly available for rent/hire; however, be sure to have the necessary license with you if you’re driving (and a helmet on a motorbike!).
FLIGHTS – Bali's airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport) is located in Denpasar. There are several direct flights from overseas flying in and out of this airport, or connecting through Jakarta, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Within the region, low-cost carriers such as Air Asia, Tiger Air, and Jet Star can give good options. If you decide to see other places within Indonesia, domestic carriers such as Garuda, Lion Air, and Batavia Air are available (plus Air Asia).
Get your flights as soon as you can! It’s a popular weekend to spend in Bali.
VISA – Please ensure that your passport has a validity of at least 6 months remaining. Generally, most citizens of ASEAN countries do not need a visa.
For our non-ASEAN guests, a visa-on-arrival may be purchased upon arrival at the airport (USD 25 for a 30-day visa). Probably best to check with the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in your country, just to be sure.
Make sure you also bring a copy of your return ticket with you when you go through immigration. It's a requirement of the Tourist Visa, and can cause delays if you don't have it.
TIME ZONE – Bali is on Central Indonesian Standard Time, which is GMT+8 (same as the Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong).
EMERGENCY NUMBERS –
Bali Tourist Police (based in Kuta) – Tel. +62 (361) 224111 | +62 (361) 224111, 24hrs.
International SOS [Medical Clinic] – Tel. +62 (361) 710505 | +62 (361) 710505, 24hrs.

Helpful Phrases
Though most people in Bali, particularly vendors, know how to speak basic English, here are some words in Bahasa Indonesia that may be helpful:
Pak / Ibu (“e-bu”) – Mister / Miss (Mrs.)
Selamat pagi - Good morning (before 11:00am)
Selamat siang - Good day (11:00am-2:00pm)
Selamat sore - Good afternoon (2:00pm-6:00pm)
Selamat malam - Good evening (after 6:00pm or sunset)
Halo - Hello (i.e. when using the telephone)

Ya - Yes
Tidak - No

Terima kasih - Thank you
Permisi/Maaf - Excuse me/Sorry
Air ("eye-er") Mineral / Aqua - mineral water, usually inferred as bottled water, often referred to simply by the #1 brand Aqua (even for other brands).
Pakai ("pak-eye") Es / Tidak Pakai Es - With ice / without ice
Botol - Bottle
Bir - Beer (pronounced as in English)
Satu lagi - One more (typically followed by the word 'bir')
Attractions
Planning to stay in Bali longer than just the tournament? There are only about a million things to do on the island during your stay. These are some of the things we know you'd enjoy:
Things To Do:
-
SURFING – Learn to surf on Kuta beach. Ride some waves (if you already know how) on many of Bali’s shores, nearby is Canggu beach, or head down to Dreamland and Uluwatu.
-
SHOPPING – Go shopping in the markets of Kuta or in the shops along Jalan Legian in Seminyak.
-
SUNSET – Enjoy the sunset with a cocktail at trendy KuDeTa in Seminyak, then sit down for a great dinner.
-
GOLFING – Play golf at the Nirwana Golf Resort in Tanah Lot (the temple there is amazing at sunset!) There are also some courses in the Nusa Dua side of Bali.
-
TEMPLE VISITS – Visit the cliffside temple in Uluwatu. Watch the surfers down below; they're pretty impressive! Also visit the temples in the cultural capital of Bali, Ubud (mind the monkeys!), and shop for art pieces while there.
-
BUNGY JUMP – If you missed out on a prize, do a bungy jump at AJ Hackett in Double 6!
-
HIKING – Hike up Bali's own volcano, Mt. Agung.
-
DIVING – Yes, loads of dive sites around Bali, more to the far north east of the island (i.e. Tulamben). You may have to allot a day or two for this to allow for no-flight time.
-
EAT, DRINK and BE MERRY! – Try some “babi guling,” roasted suckling pig. Dive into local seafood at the beachfront seafood joints at Jimbaran beach. Nice to wash it all down with local Storm micro-brewed beer or try the national label Bintang pilsner.
-
PLAY BEACH ULTIMATE – Need we say more?
Above all, just relax, chill out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the friendly Balinese people! :)
